In 2024, artist ZHANG Ruyi collaborated with Skira Editore (Milan) to publish a monograph that comprehensively showcases the scope of her artistic practice. The forum “Zhang Ruyi: the Things That I (Don’t) Understand” takes this publication as its starting point, bringing together the artist and three curators and scholars who contributed essays to the book—Karen Smith, WU Mo, and QIU Yun—to explore Zhang’s artistic methodologies developed over many years, as well as the resonance and significance of her work in today’s context.
