In May 2025, the Asian Cultural Council (ACC) announced that artist ZHANG Ruyi has won the 2025 New York Fellowship. As a visual artist, ZHANG Ruyi will be funded by the Asian Cultural Council to travel to New York and other parts of the United States from July to December 2026. ZHANG will examine residential typologies in New York City and focus on identity, social dynamics, and spatial perceptions, enabling a comparative study between New York City and Shanghai.An astute observer of urban transformations, ZHANG creates sculptures, site-specific installations, and mixed media works that uncover relationships among individuals, their environments, and broader societal structures.
