LIN Shan 林山
LIN Shan (b.1988) lives and works in Shenzhen, China. She received her BFA from the Mural Painting Department of the China Academy of Art in 2012, and completed her MFA in Painting at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Venezia in 2015.
LIN Shan renders the plants she encounters in everyday life through anthropomorphic forms, using them to articulate human desire and the subtle dynamics of interpersonal relationships. Their playful, animated appearances draw viewers into a dreamlike realm imbued with a sense of ease and lightness that she carefully constructs. Most of the plants she depicts are domesticated and cultivated by human hands. Through painting, she attempts to replant the shrubs of urban green belts or potted plants in the foreground back into the wilderness of the background. Yet this longing for wildness is ultimately entangled and restrained by the disciplines that have accumulated over time within both consciousness and the body.
In recent years, LIN Shan’s work has been exhibited at major institutions including BY ART MATTERS (Hangzhou, 2025), Pingshan Art Museum (Shenzhen, 2023), SNAP Art Center (Shanghai, 2023), Guangdong Museum of Art (Guangzhou, 2020), 21 Space Art Museum (Dongguan, 2018), and Shenzhen Art Museum (Shenzhen, 2017), among others.
